Brown eggs from herding recalled for salmonella
Hühnerhof Heidegold GmbH has launched a comprehensive product recall for brown eggs from free-range keeping. The affected batches may be contaminated with Salmonella, which is why customers are asked to return the corresponding eggs to the sales outlets. Salmonella can be a serious risk, especially for people with weakened immune systems.

Recall campaigns for breakfast eggs have already attracted considerable attention in the past, with the dioxin scandal from 2012 in particular probably still being remembered by many consumers. The current product recall was started due to possible salmonella contamination and has so far remained in a relatively manageable range. The brown eggs from the Hühnerhof Heidegold company were distributed through the Netto Marken-Discount and the Backring Nord Isernhagen (Hanover region).

Salmonella detected during routine examination
According to the company, "during a routine examination of two batches of brown eggs from free range salmonella, salmonella was found on the shell of the eggs - not in the eggs themselves." In view of possible health risks, Hühnerhof Heidegold GmbH has started a comprehensive recall campaign. All affected trading companies were informed immediately and the remaining quantities there were recalled. For precautionary reasons, consumers who have purchased affected brown eggs from keeping on the floor are also requested to return them.

Affected batches of brown eggs
According to the notification from Hühnerhof Heidegold GmbH, brown eggs from free range with the best-before date of March 28, 2017 and March 31, 2017 are affected by the recall. The eggs were delivered on March 8th, 2017. With the best before date of March 28th, the recall only applies to eggs with the packing station identification number DE-030009 (information is on an adhesive label on the packaging) and the producer codes / print numbers 2-DE-0351921 and 2-DE-1327781 (see stamp on the egg). The weight classes "S-M-L-XL" are affected here. Backring Nord Isernhagen (Hanover region), Ernst Dehning GmbH (Hamburg, Heidekreis, Rotenburg / Wümme), EGV AG (Unna), M. Gerth (Stade), Poseritzer Eierhof (Vorpommern-Rügen), Gronemann Lebensmittel KG are the sales outlets and regions (Arnsberg), K. Stöver (Harburg), Handelshof Köln GmbH & Co.KG (Cologne), Handelshof Rheinbach GmbH & Co. KG (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis) and Transgourmet DE GmbH & Co. KG (Main-Taunus-Kreis , Karlsruhe, Offenbach, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Aschaffenburg, Rhein-Erft-Kreis and Cologne).

On the best-before date of March 31, 2017, eggs with the packing station identification number DE-030009 and the producer codes / print numbers 2-DE-0351921 and 2-DE-1327781 are affected. However, only in the weight classes M and L. Hühnerhof Heidegold GmbH specifies the net brand discount as the point of sale, with the eggs only being offered regionally in parts of Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein

Return in the shops
"The recall does not affect any other eggs with other best-before dates from this packing center or other producer codes / print numbers," according to Hühnerhof Heidegold GmbH. Eggs from affected batches can be returned to the respective shop and customers can choose to receive new eggs or the purchase price back, according to the company.

Do not underestimate the risk of salmonella
The risk of a salmonella infection should not be underestimated, since the food infection in immunocompromised people can quickly become severe and, given the typical symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, the patient is at risk of internal dehydration. Further complications can also arise with severe forms of course. (fp)
