Listeria suspected: warning of meat products from the Braumiller butcher's shop

Consumers should refrain from eating sausages and cooked ham
The District Office Fürstenfeldbruck is currently warning of the consumption of meat products from the Braumiller butcher's shop in Biburg. The reason: Wiener sausages and cooked ham from the company could possibly be contaminated with listeria and thus pose a health hazard. The company had discovered the listeria contamination during a quality control itself and is now no longer allowed to put meat and sausage products into circulation, according to the district office.

The company may no longer deliver products for the time being
Another suspicion of listeria in food: According to a press release by the Fürstenfeldbruck district office, the butcher Braumiller has identified a listeria contamination in meat products as part of its quality management and reported this according to the regulations. According to the report, Viennese sausages and cooked ham from the Biburger company were affected and were sold locally and directly from the farm. The company should therefore no longer put meat and sausages on the market. For reasons of preventive consumer protection, consumers should refrain from consuming purchased products until further notice, according to the district office. The ban will continue to exist until the cause of the contamination has been clarified and eliminated.

Bacteria can be very dangerous for high-risk groups
The bacterial species Listeria monocytogenes can trigger so-called “listeriosis” in humans. This is usually safe for healthy adults and usually has a symptom-free or harmless course with flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhea. However, the disease can become dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system and e.g. lead to blood poisoning, inflammation of the brain or meninges and even death. The risk of premature birth or miscarriage increases in pregnant women.

Raw meat is dangerous
The bacteria can multiply even at low temperatures and even survive freezing. Cooking, roasting and pasteurization, on the other hand, kill them. To protect themselves, risk persons should, for example, according to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), e.g. Do not eat raw animal foods (such as Mett), and they should also avoid smoking or marinated fish products (especially smoked salmon and graved salmon sund) and raw milk cheese.

The Geretsried large butcher shop “Sieber” was closed in May due to the detection of listeria in several sausage samples. All of the company's products were recalled across Germany, and customers included Rewe and the discounters Lidl and Penny. (No)
