According to a study by the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), 43% of employees in Germany feel worn out and used up. Stress-related sick leave increases and the volume of antidepressants increases with medication prescriptions. The prescribed amount of antidepressants has more than doubled since 2007, according to TK.
Overall, women are given fewer medications but more antidepressants than men. However, the volume rose faster for male employees: they received medication for depression on average for 10.5 days in 2016, which is 114% more than in 2007. For women, the prescribed dose increased 'only' by 93% from 8.7 in the same period to 16.8 daily units.
